Blocking the Blockade Resolution

Posted on July 28, 2008. Filed under: Activism, Iran |

This post is an update on H. Con. Res. 362.  A month ago I told you about this resolution working its way through the House that would set up a blockade of Iran.  If enacted, this provocation could easily produce more war, higher gas prices and more terrorism.
Through Progressive Democrats of America (PDA), I have [...]

2000 Days of Hell

Posted on July 27, 2008. Filed under: Activism, Iraq |

By my calculation, September 10th will be the 2000th day of the US occupation of Iraq.
About 1 million Iraqis killed.  (This is twice the number Saddam snuffed out during his reign of terror.)  Several million have become refugees.  Untold number injured both physically and spiritually.
About $650 Billion squandered, and still counting.   Over 4,100 Americans killed, [...]

Preventing History from Repeating

Posted on July 1, 2008. Filed under: Activism, Iran |

The US House of Representatives is currently considering a bill (H. Con. Res. 362) that might push the US-Iran confrontation over the edge.
H.CON.RES 362 already has (as of 6/29) 169 co-sponsors. This resolution calls on the president to stop all shipments of refined petroleum products from reaching Iran. It also “demands” that the President impose [...]

Pagan Death Cult

Posted on June 21, 2008. Filed under: Activism, Christian Right |

I recently got a forwarded email warning me of the terrible consequences of removing 10 Commandments memorials from public spaces.  A group called Faith and Action sent out the appeal.
The reader is warned that if we don’t act, tiny religious minorities might be placed on equal par with Christianity in the public square.
A “pagan death [...]

Updated Haiti Petition Link

Posted on June 9, 2008. Filed under: Activism |

Guess my inexperience at blogging came out.  Check out the better link below to actually get to the petition.  Over 2,000 people have already signed.

Here’s the hotlink to the online petition to drop Haiti’s debt
Haiti is one of many countries the US has invaded (numerous times), and occupied (from 1915-1934).  We as Americans have a [...]

Sign Petition NOW to Drop Haiti’s Debt

Posted on June 6, 2008. Filed under: Activism |

Perhaps some of you saw Haitians on the news eating dirt–literally–because of the food crisis.  One step toward saving lives in Haiti is to drop the odious debt Haiti owes.  It is only $1 billion–chump change to the US or the IMF–but to Haiti it is a heavy, unnecessary burden.  Here’s something you can do [...]

COs in Government: Ted Sorensen

Posted on June 3, 2008. Filed under: Activism, History |

The Boston Globe has an article today on Ted Sorensen, speechwriter for JFK who was a pacifist.  The article can be read here.  Apparently he was instrumental in Kennedy’s commencement speech at American University.  This speech hinted at a world beyond the Cold War, a world of co-existence with the USSR.  Fascinating stuff.
My question:  how [...]

Plan to Bomb Iran this summer? Keep the lamps trimmed and burning!

Posted on May 28, 2008. Filed under: Activism, Iran |

The newspaper The Asia Times is reporting that the US may be planning to bomb a specific target in Iran in August.  They claim to have a very reliable source.  You can read the article here:  http://www.commondreams.org/archive/2008/05/27/9220/
Now, there have been other warnings.  This one is more specific.  At this point it hasn’t been confirmed.  Nevertheless,  [...]
